10 Things You Might Not Know About Me:
1. I was born in England. My parents served in the U.S. Air Force and while they were stationed in England I was born. I was only there for the first four years of my life and don’t remember much except a feeling of belonging.
2. My middle name is Sian. It is pronounced Shian though. Funny enough my younger brother is named Ian.
3. My son’s full name is Michael Strider. I realize this isn’t really about me but I just wanted to share where I got my son’s very awesome name. Michael after St. Michael the Archangel who battled Lucifer in Heaven. And Strider is from Lord of the Rings. It’s a nickname Aragorn became know as while he protected the Shire with the Rangers of the North. I picked Michael when I was 13 and picked Strider when I was 22. If Zach and I are every lucky enough to have a girl we are going to name her Arya from Game of Thrones. Yes, we are the nerdy parents who give nerdy names to our kids.
4. I lived in Germany for four years. My parents were sent to Germany when I was 9. It’s funny, but at the time I said I hated living in Germany. But now as an adult I look back at what a great opportunity I had and now idolize the time I spent there.
5. I wish sometimes I was more like my friend Tab. She isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. She is a great writer. So amusing and entertaining. And she loves to clean (I hate to clean). She has a wicked sense of humor and the best taste in everything.
6. I had two spinal taps in my life. I had a medical condition where there was to much fluid on my brain. The first spinal tap was to relieve the pressure but the PA was a total nincompoop and couldn’t pierce the right spot after three painful stabs in my back. The same PA failed to tell me that I needed to lay flat on my back for the next 8 hours to allow the holes to heal. I ended up with the worse headache ever. It was so bad I asked my mom to cut off my hair. I still had to return the next week to have the procedure repeated but by a doctor. He got the results and it didn’t even hurt. My headache was treated with an IV of straight caffeine. It was like 10 Dr. Peppers at one time.
7. I was raised Unitarian Universalist, a very liberal religion, but converted to Catholicism as an adult. I always had an obsession with the majesties and pageantry. Then, I learned what they believed and it spoke to me. I feel such a calm peace being a part of the Catholic Church. I still am liberal, just with a different view.
8. I love to watch infomercials. And every one of the items being sold I start to think “Hey! I really need that.” Especially the exercise videos. I’m just glad I’m broke or I would buy a lot of junk.
9. One of my fantasy jobs would be to work in movies be it a director, film editor, screenwriter or foley artist.
10. I wish I could draw, but my mind is too organized. Everything has to be perfect, symmetrical, and even. I wish I could create more like the right side than the left.
