Geek of the Week: Professor Brian Cox
7 Aug
Before Professor Brian Cox was an award-winning physicist and host of Science Channel’s “Wonders of the Universe”, he played keyboards for a British pop band called D:Ream. While furthering his music career, Cox received several degrees in physics and began work on his PhD.
Often called the “rock star physicist”, he has hosted several programs for the BBC, including In Einstein’s Shadow, the Horizon series of specials, and “Wonders of the Solar System”, the precursor to “Wonders of the Universe”. Cox is frequently invited to speak at the TED conferences, usually concerning particle physics (his specialty) and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. He also served as the science advisor for the 2007 film Sunshine, directed by Danny Boyle.
Cox is married to blogger Gia Milinovich and has a son, George Eagle, and a stepson, Moki.
